Born in Madison Wisconsin 1n 1942, Doug moved with his parents to the west coast, ultimately settling in 1948 in Eugene, Oregon. . In 1961 after graduating from high school, Doug attended the University of Oregon briefly before taking a job at the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. It was there that he met his wife Tanis and he has remained a resident of Washington since. Doug enrolled at the University of Washington and earned a B.A. in 1967. In 1968, he entered and attended Gonzaga School of Law in Spokane Washington.

Upon graduating, Doug went to work for the Snohomish County Prosecutor's office in Everett Washington, doing criminal prosecutions. In 1974, he was offered an associate's position at the long established Everett law firm of Williams Novack and Hansen and accepted it. In 1984, when the Williams Novack and Hansen law firm disbanded, Doug, Jeff Pratt and Terry Mundorf founded the law firm of Marsh Mundorf and Pratt in newly formed community of Mill Creek. During his legal career, Doug has focused on providing litigation services, most of which has been in the family law arena. During the past several years however, the emphasis of his practice has been in the growing field of dispute resolution including, mediation, arbitration and settlement conferencing. He is a frequent Pro-Tempore Judge and Commissioner in the Snohomish County Courts.

Doug is a member of the Snohomish, State of Washington and Federal Bar (Western District of Washington) Associations. In 1987 he was the President of the Snohomish County Bar Association and thereafter a Trustee on the Board. He has served on a number of State Bar committees including the Judicial Recommendations and Corrections Boards. In 2000, he was chosen as the Snohomish County Bar Association's Attorney of the Year.

Outside of the law business, Doug has been an active member of the Snohomish County community serving on many boards and committees over the years. He remains an avid skier, sailor and incompetent golfer. He and his wife Tanis enjoy their annual exodus to Kailua-Kona Hawaii and the special times they have with good friends and family (2 children - also lawyers, and 5 grandchildren).
